I’m not by any means an expert on traveling. However, I do have enough experience with different types of trips that I’ve obtained some pretty good tips to pass out to you lovely blog readers! I’m hoping this can also be a jumping off point for you to share your favorite tip with us! We can all benefit from sharing our little tricks with each other right? The following was originally posted on my previous travel blog VoteForKyle.com, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about lately and I felt it was worth sharing. I’ve made a few edits and updates, but the meaning remains the same.
Those of you who follow me on Instagram have, most likely, seen all of my pictures from Brevard over the past few weeks. I always say that I am lucky to be from the most beautiful place in the world, and that place is this little town just 30 minutes south of Asheville.
Brevard is a small town with a population just over 7,500. Downtown sits along Main Street and Broad Street and features a number of different shops, restaurants, and bars. It really is the cutest dang place you’ve ever seen!
Today I’m going to tell you all about spending a day in the town I called home for my childhood and youth.
Ok, I realize that you are all probably tired of hearing about this trip to Panama by now. But, I promise that this is more than likely the last that you’ll hear of it. If you’ve not been anywhere near this blog or our facebooks in the last week in a half then you should know that Kyle and I went to Panama last week. We had a great time and we’re so excited to share of course. The deal is this: Kyle and I committed to taking one BIG trip every year when we got married. So far we’ve done it and I don’t foresee us stopping anytime soon. The thing that we get asked the most is how do you do that? We also hear a lot of people say, “I wish I could do something like that.” The thing is, you can! We’ve made traveling our priority. That means that we do without a lot of other things to make that work! It’s not that we are rolling in money – quite the contrary. It’s also a common misconception that we’re able to do this because I work for myself. Yes, that’s incredibly helfpul, however, Kyle had to take off of work for this last trip. It’s also sometimes harder to take off when you own your own business because there’s no one at home doing the work for you. So, no excuses!!
I thought I’d take a minute to share my top 10 tips for planning YOUR big trip!!
If you follow us on Facebook or twitter, you already know that Sarajane and I took a trip last week to Panama. When we got married we decided that we would take a trip out of the country at least once per year. So far we have succeeded.
This year we really weren’t sure where we wanted to go, but we didn’t have a ton of money, so we looked up inexpensive plane tickets to see which places we could get to within our budget. Out of the best rates we could find {for places we actually wanted to go} it came down to Panama or Ireland. Since Ireland in November didn’t sound like a lot of fun, we chose Panama.

It was an awesome trip. Probably one of my favorites so far. Panama is a very interesting place and we had just the right combination of adventure and relaxation.
You may know by now that Kyle and I will be hopping on a flight to Panama Saturday. I’m the kind of person who has a system for everything. I like to plan in advance and be prepared for the unexpected. The theory I’ve adapted is if I plan enough than the more free spirited I can be. Makes sense right?
Those neurotic tendencies have spilled over into my travel attire. I strategically choose what to wear when I fly. I decided to go ahead and break it down for you.
I recently took a trip to my hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. While we were planning what I would write for this month, Sarajane said “why don’t you write about Jacksonville?” I had never really thought of it. I mean, it’s my hometown! I always thought of it as a large city with nothing to do. That point of view was a little bit…dramatic. Jacksonville is actually the largest city by area in all of the United States and the largest city in all of Florida. It’s pretty much the most Northeast of Florida you can get to without actually being in Georgia. It’s grown a little bit since I lived there.
I was so excited about visiting Toronto last week with Eric and our friend Emily. It was the first time in Canada for all of us. Our friend Grant and his husband Brian had told us so many fun things about the city they call home. I couldn’t wait to visit!
Last week I wrote all about the steps I go through for planning a road trip and promised that this week I’d give you a rundown of our Toronto trip. Well, here it is! Check out some of my favorite places in Toronto after the jump.
For those of you who follow Eric and I on Instagram and twitter you’ll know that we have spent the last five days on the road going from North Carolina to Toronto for our good friend Grant’s wedding {congratulations to Grant and his husband Brian, by the way!}. We decided that turning our journey into a road trip would be affordable and super fun.
It’s not uncommon for people in the southeast to avoid Atlanta all together. It’s not known for being hip or easy to navigate. It’s also-in my opinion-a bit underrated. I travel to Atlanta quite often for work and have been able to find some really great places to frequent. Having friends who live there sharing their hot spots with me has been wonderful. I spent a few days their last week for a photography conference and found myself really looking forward to hitting up my favorite spots! I decided I had to share them with you, that way – next time you’re in town – you can at least eat, drink, and sleep well!
