Crafternoon: Gallery Glass

Houston, we have a privacy problem.

Ever since Eric and I moved into our new bedroom here in the house (the room that used to be the office) there have been a few issues that needed addressing.

Being the world’s best procrastinator, I waited around before taking care of two windows that gave our neighbors – or friends and roommates – some high dollar views of Eric and I (you’ve got to be smart in this economy and charge for stuff like that). One was the window above our bed and the other was the window in the bathroom attached to our room. For the window above our bed I chose a quick and easy fix. I measured the window, cut some fabric I had lying around from another project, used iron on hem tape to put in a loop at the top, cut it in half, and put the new curtains up with a tension rod. Simple! I wanted to only cover the lower half of the window – the part that gave the neighbors a view of something more than they bargained for – and still wanted light to flow in through the top half.

Now, on to the main project. The bathroom window needed a different treatment. We really needed something to help with privacy in the bathroom, but I didn’t want to do a curtain for two reasons: 1) the bathroom is super small and needs all the help it can get in terms of lighting and helping the space feel larger and 2) I’m just scared of a fabric curtain in the bathroom – what if it grows mold or mildew?!  Continue reading

Valentine’s Dinner Party {Tyler}

The 20 Somethings are having a Valentine’s Dinner Party next Saturday! (PS: Sorry you’re not all invited).

Anyway, I’m super excited about it because I love parties and I love planning things and I love having people over and I just love lots of things.

All of that to say that our super cute and fun Valentine’s Dinner needed an invitation to go along with it. I decided a real paper invitation sent via mail would be the best way to invite our friends – I think it means a lot more than some Facebook event. So I scoured Pinterest for invitation ideas and got to work on coming up with the perfect party invite! I came up with a chalkboard theme for the invitation and accompanying envelopes. I had the main invitation printed at a local shop and made all of the envelopes myself (which is super simple to do, by the way).

Check out how it turned out and make sure you scroll to the bottom - you can download the invite template in Word format to edit and print yourself!

Creating a Gallery Wall {Tyler}

A couple of weeks ago I posted about covering your walls with great art on a budget and talked a little bit about using Modge Podge and found objects to decorate in the form of a gallery wall. Well, dear readers, today I’m going to take you through some of the steps Eric and I have taken in creating that gallery wall of our own, and show you some photos of our new room.

Wall Art on a Shoestring {Tyler}

Eric and I are moving!!! To a different room in the house. Calm down, calm down – we’re still a part of The 20 Somethings.

For those of you who don’t know, Sarajane has moved her business operations out of the house to Downtown Asheville, opening up the space formally known as our office for Eric and I  to get a bedroom upgrade. That also means that our room will be transitioning into a guest room – and THAT MEANS a real bed for all of our lovely guests!

But, all of that to say that moving means it time to update some of our wall art in different rooms in the house, move some stuff around, and create some new art as well! I think having things hanging on your walls is pretty dang important – but you don’t have to spend tons of money on those terrible metal cut out wall hangings or paintings of beach scenes from Homegoods. And you don’t really need a lot of artistic ability to create unique and exciting artwork. Here are some of my favorite pieces of artwork hanging around our house – and they’ve all been created with as little money as possible!

Cleaning a Dishwasher {Tyler}

The dishwasher is pretty much the greatest invention that’s ever existed. You mean to tell me there’s a machine that you can put dishes in, wait a few hours (or 10, if you’re using our dishwasher), and have clean dishes on the other side? CRAZY!

But, did you know that dishwashers need a little maintenance from time-to-time? I’m serious! Sometimes they need some help. For example, we had noticed that our dishwasher had been getting a littttle stinky and our dishes weren’t as shiny and pretty as they could be. And it makes sense – this machine is cleaning food off of plates.

So, last week, Eric and I took the whole thing apart and gave it a good cleaning. It was pretty easy to do, only took about half an hour of actual work and a few hours of waiting, and now our dishwasher is fresh and clean!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 Gallon White Vinegar
  • Old Toothbrush
  • Scrub Brush
  • Paper Towels

House Tour: The Kitchen! {sarajane.}

Maybe I’m just saying this because it’s how I feel. But, I’m pretty sure the kitchen is everyone’s favorite room in our house. It’s where the majority of the magic happens. It houses the food, the booze, and the coffee. Also, it’s the room that got the most decorating love from the beginning! It always seems to happen that people congregate in the kitchen. It doesn’t matter that we have a huge living room with cushy seats. We will cram 12 people around our tiny kitchen table to talk while we prepare a meal. I think we all like it best that way.

When you walk in from the living room this part of the kitchen is to your right. Maybe for one of the posts I’ll fix up the fridge and make it look nice?

House Tour: The Office! {Sarajane}

This is the room where I spend most of my time. I guess it’s only natural I would blog about it. The office is set up for the comfort of working, the flexibility to photograph in here, and the professionalism for client meetings. If you ever saw my last work spaces you would know that this is a huge step up. From the coffee shop in college to a tiny desk in a guest room, to working out of our car, to a ‘cloffice’ {office/closet}. I’m thrilled to have so much space to host all of the many things I need to run a business. Not to mention I get to share a desk with one of my favorite people!

This dresser came with the house. It was painted magenta with gold handles before. Kyle and I painted it yellow, the handles white and took out the top drawers.

House Tour: kyle & Sarajane’s Bedroom and Bath {kyle}

Hello everyone!

Welcome to my bedroom! Don’t be weird about it. I’m just showing off our cool designs and whatnot. Most of what you see is from the mind of Sarajane, I’m just the one who puts things together usually.

So, we’ll start with the bathroom. Our’s is fairly simple but it works for us. Sarajane picked out the cool stripped shower curtain and the teal bathmat recently. They add a nice little bit of color to an otherwise bland room. I hung the shelves with some old brackets that I had laying around and a could of nice boards for Lowe’s for just a few bucks.

Sarajane picked up the little baskets at World Market a while back and used the Mason jars for our cotton swabs and bath salts. We try to only use the bath salts in moderation – don’t want to end up on the news.

DIY: Coffee Bar Makeover {Tyler}

Happy Monday, everyone! Today I want to show you a recent and exciting update to The 20 Somethings house – our repainted and update coffee bar!

The coffee bar is one of the most fun parts of our house – it sits in our kitchen and holds our Keurig coffee machine, espresso machine, coffee grinder, and our single serve drink blender. Above is a shelf full of coffee brewing instruments, mugs, and syrups. Inside the coffee bar is where we store coffee, teas, mugs, and breakfast foods. It is my favorite.
