Asheville is on track to open a ton of new restaurants this year – a number of them in the ever-growing South Slope area, just south of Downtown. I’m pretty frickin’ excited, to say the least, so I thought it’d be good to put together a list of upcoming Asheville restaurants – all in one place! Check out what is in store for the #AVLFood scene over the coming months.
DOWNTOWN
Farm Burger - Downtown | Patton Ave. - This Spring
With three locations in and around Atlanta, Farm Burger already knows how to make a mean burger with delicious toppings. The Asheville location will continue the tradition with local, grass-fed meats, local beers, and INDOOR BOCCI BALL!
Local Taco - Downtown | Lexington Ave. - Coming Soon
With already establish locations in Nashville, Lexington, Kentucky, and Greenville, South Carolina, Local Taco knows how to make delicious Tex-Mex food with a Southern twist. No news yet on an open date – but the local location is on Facebook.
BoBo Pho - Downtown | Lexington Ave. - ???
The owner of Suwana’s Thai Orchid is opening this pho restaurant in the spot next to BoBo, recently vacated by Green Light Cafe.
The Green Room - Downtown | Church St. - ???
It’s a takeover from The Altamont Theatre! Treasure Keepers and the Heavenly Spirits Wine Bar is out and a new light bites restaurant and bar is in.
SOUTH SLOPE
King Daddy’s Chicken & Waffles - S. Slope | Collier Ave. - Late Summer
Chicken and waffles with a rooftop bar and late night food service from the owners of Early Girl - need we say more?
Beer City Pretzel Company - S. Slope | Collier Ave. - Late Summer
King Daddy’s neighbor will feature pretzels made with local ingredients and a tasting room with beers galore.
Ben’s Tune-Up - S. Slope | Hilliard Ave. - Coming Soon
They’re gonna have a sake brewery and ramen and sashimi-like dishes and a wall of plants and a courtyard with seating and an electric fireplace and something about a bike rack on a wall and beer and drinks and it’s just going to be a lot of fun.
Buxton Hill BBQ - S. Slope | Banks Ave. - Coming Soon
Buxton Hill will feature pit-roasted barbecue, fried chicken, quick lunches, and family-friendly dinners with shared plates and abundant outdoor seating.
Seven Sows Bourbon & Larder - S. Slope | Biltmore Ave. - This Month
Another joint venture of Asheville’s foodies and drinkies (that’s a new term I just came up with for beer and cocktail folk) Seven Sows will feature a crazy cool menu of Southern foods ranging from a pig head meatloaf to an oyster and pork cheek pie. Oh yeah. Like them on Facebook!
NORTH
Shambles Bar and Eatery - N. Asheville | Charlotte St. - Coming Soon
This project of the owner and head butcher of Asheville’s Chop Shop Butchery will feature snacks and entrees in a classic bar atmosphere complete with charcuterie – housemade meat products including sausages and pâtés – and other “tail-to-snout” specialities. The cocktails will be all about classic gin, bourbon, and scotch creations.
Ambrozia Bar and Bistro - N. Asheville | Merrimon Ave. - This Month
A full service restaurant with a local focus, a large selection of bourbons, and locals beers!
WEST
Zia Tequeria - W. Asheville | Haywood Rd. - Opens Today!
Regional Mexican dishes, Tex-Mex faves, tacos à la carte, and a rockin’ menu of margaritas – with housemade sour mix and freshly squeezed juices – are what characterize this Charleston staple and Asheville newcomer. Check out the menu!
Biscuit Head - W. Asheville | Haywood Rd. - This Spring
Featuring gourmet and handmade biscuits and sides, a jelly bar, cocktails – what’s not to love?
Kitchen 643 - W. Asheville | Haywood Rd. - ???
The former Pineapple Jack’s had window art in late fall that pointed to a new restaurant – Kitchen 643. Now, Pineapple Jack’s Facebook page says, “…details still being worked out but will tell you this much…. Spring launch and WE ARE SOOOO EXCITED!!!!!” Anyone know what’s happening here?
RIVER ARTS DISTRICT
The Bull and Beggar - RAD | Roberts St. - Coming Soon
Not much is known other than the fact that Drew Wallace of The Admiral and Matthew Dawes, formerly of Table, are putting this restaurant together.
All Souls Pizza - RAD | Clingman Ave. - This Spring/Summer
Baker and owner of Farm and Sparrow Bakery, David Bauer, is opening this new pizza restaurant in the former Asheville Public space. The restaurant will feature fresh flour, traditional grains, fresh pasta, fresh polenta, house-cured meats, and local cheeses.
Pizza Pura - RAD | Depot St. - This April
From the owners of White Duck Taco Shop serving Neapolitan-style pizzas.
New Restaurant Constructed from Shipping Containers - RAD | Riverside Dr. - ???
All we know is that the owner of 5 Walnut is building a restaurant from shipping containers.
SOUTH
Asian Pacific To Go - S. Asheville | Hendersonville Road – This Spring
All we’ve got is that the marquee in the Ingles shopping plaza – across from EarthFare in South Asheville – has a new Asian/Pacific to go restaurant listed.
Okay ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, what did we miss? What are you most excited about?
I know I shouldn’t play favorites, but if King Daddy’s opened tomorrow, I’d be in line waiting tonight!
To all the new food!
Tyler
PS: We know there are tons of new breweries coming – I’ll let kyle handle those.

Plus one for King Daddy’s and Seven Sows menu looks phenomenal!
