Maybe I’m just saying this because it’s how I feel. But, I’m pretty sure the kitchen is everyone’s favorite room in our house. It’s where the majority of the magic happens. It houses the food, the booze, and the coffee. Also, it’s the room that got the most decorating love from the beginning! It always seems to happen that people congregate in the kitchen. It doesn’t matter that we have a huge living room with cushy seats. We will cram 12 people around our tiny kitchen table to talk while we prepare a meal. I think we all like it best that way.
When you walk in from the living room this part of the kitchen is to your right. Maybe for one of the posts I’ll fix up the fridge and make it look nice?
On the fridge we keep a house calendar for the week. It’s helpful to write down any house events we’re doing, family lunch, and to write down our work schedules. This is nice because sometimes one or more of us just needs to know where everyone is at that exact moment!
The handheld cutting board is my favorite! A friend of Kyle and I’s gave it to us when we got engaged! {Hi Charlotte!!!} The toaster was Kyle’s first married Christmas gift to me. {he was still getting the hang of that romance stuff, give him a break!} The olive oil jar is from world market as well as the orange timer. My favorite part about this picture is that the tea kettle was Tyler and Eric’s and the spoon rest was ours, but, they just happen to match perfectly.
This is the part of the kitchen that you face walking in from the living room. That’s the back door to the left and the window overlooks the back deck. The knife set was a gift from my beautiful mother. The bowl set is the best and belongs to Tyler and Eric. We keep our dishsoap in an olive oil container because it’s prettier. We keep fruits and some veggies in wooden salad bowls on the counter. The kitchen aid was a gift from Kyle’s gran at our wedding shower.
Tyler and Eric made this piece of art which I LOVE! It’s a Julia Child quote that says, “People who love to eat, are always the best people.” Perfect.
If you turn to the left this is what you’ll see. The kitchen table was given to Kyle and I by our old neighbors in Wilmington! {Hi Meehans!} The cuba sign was found at Kyle’s old work. {a book store in wilmington} The dresser/armoire thing was a yard sale find for $5. We added the shelves inside.
The bird art was done by my best friend Joanna! {xoxo} The hanging basket is from world market and houses all onions, garlic, and bananas. We put all of our pantry staples in glass jars because labels make my eyes bleed and Tyler and Eric are trendy. We got the chalkboard labels at World Market and tried our best to write neatly on them.
I have to keep my re-usable bags hanging somewhere obvious, this helps me remember to take them. Below that is the basket we use for potatoes. All of our potatoes go in here immediately because of an incident that I don’t wanna talk about. It was a dark day.
This is my favorite wall in the kitchen. Not only does it house the pass through, but, also the coffee bar! Some of you may remember the coffee bar I had in Waynesville. This is a continuation of that. We just have more shelf space for things and we’ve taken away my coffee pot and replaced it with Tyler and Eric’s Keurig.
From the left to the right we have a mr. coffee pump espresso machine, the cuisinart burr grinder, a single use blender, and the keurig.
On the shelf above the bar we have different flavored syrups, spoons just for the coffee station, different brewing methods, homemade chai mix, and the stackable coffee mugs that one of you lovely readers will receive!
Also, the chalkboard birds are from where else but world market!
I printed off the art and framed it in some frames we had laying around. The menu is just from my brain. But, I created a graphic to make it cute-ish.
On either side of the coffee bar we have little shelves to hold more things. On the left is the liqour bottles. I got those at an outlet store last year. We try to keep gin, rum, and whiskey in them if we can. On the right are more syrups that are used less often. Also, a basket where we keep to-go cups for friends and clients that may need something for their ride home.
In the top drawer we keep all of the tea, hot cocoa, horchata, raw sugar, agave nectar, straws, and honey.
The second drawer houses our coffee mugs. Yes, I have boxes of coffee mugs in the basement too. Don’t judge me.
The bottom drawer houses breakfast foods and Tyler and Eric’s snacky bits.
So, that’s our kitchen! Now you’ve seen our entire house!
